IoT And The Automobile
Referencing information from the provided presentation, perform some research and answer the following questions about how the Internet of Things is integrated into today’s automobiles.
What devices on cars connect to the Internet? Wipers, Airbags, Radio, navigation system, security system, cruise control, automatic brake system etc...
What information does a vehicle send? IP Address, Wifi Code, Analytical Data: Software system analyze the data sent by IoT devices within the vehicle and then send instructions/analysis can be sent back for commands.
What information does the vehicle receive? The vehicle will receive commands such as preventive measures to prevent an accident, or instructions to help a driver navigate on the road.

As viewed in the video during class (the crazy-fast Cadillac CTS-V); this is a classic example of an input sensor (inertia sensor) communicating with an output system (vehicle's cellular communication system; OnStar) to call out and report that the vehicle had just been in an accident. However, since sensors are only programmed to "know what they know" the baseline computer program is configured to:
ReplyDeleteA. Sense gravity force parameter violation (+1G)
B. Notify Cellular system of violation
C. Cellular system checks vehicle ECU to verify violation
D. Once verified, perform outcall to OnStar. Place on Speakerphone.
E. Repeat outcall until someone answers.
Interesting times we are living in, indeed!
